SN 47.39 Development – Bhāvanāsutta
“Bhikkhū, I will teach you the development of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.
“Catunnaṁ, bhikkhave, satipaṭṭhānānaṁ bhāvanaṁ desessāmi.
Listen …
Taṁ suṇātha.
And what is the development of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation?
Katamā, bhikkhave, catunnaṁ satipaṭṭhānānaṁ bhāvanā?
It’s when a bhikkhu meditates by observing an aspect of the body—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of desire and aversion for the world.
Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ;
They meditate observing an aspect of feelings …
vedanāsu …pe…
mind …

principles—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of desire and aversion for the world.
dhammesu dhammānupassī viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ.
This is the development of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.”
Ayaṁ kho, bhikkhave, catunnaṁ satipaṭṭhānānaṁ bhāvanā”ti.
