“Bhikkhū, I will teach you the things that are prone to being fettered, and the fetter.
“Saṁyojaniye ca, bhikkhave, dhamme desessāmi saṁyojanañca.

Taṁ suṇātha.
What are the things that are prone to being fettered? And what is the fetter?
Katame ca, bhikkhave, saṁyojaniyā dhammā, katamañca saṁyojanaṁ?
The eye is something that’s prone to being fettered.
Cakkhuṁ, bhikkhave, saṁyojaniyo dhammo.
The desire and greed for it is the fetter.
Yo tattha chandarāgo, taṁ tattha saṁyojanaṁ …pe…
The ear … nose … tongue … body …
jivhā saṁyojaniyo dhammo …pe…
mind is something that’s prone to being fettered.
mano saṁyojaniyo dhammo.
The desire and greed for it is the fetter.
Yo tattha chandarāgo, taṁ tattha saṁyojanaṁ.
These are called the things that are prone to being fettered, and this is the fetter.”
Ime vuccanti, bhikkhave, saṁyojaniyā dhammā, idaṁ saṁyojanan”ti.
