SN 2.7 With Pañcālacaṇḍa – Pañcālacaṇḍasutta
At Sāvatthī.
Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
Standing to one side, the god Pañcālacaṇḍa recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho pañcālacaṇḍo devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
“The opening amid confinement
“Sambādhe vata okāsaṁ,
was discovered by the Buddha of vast intelligence,
Avindi bhūrimedhaso;
who woke up to absorption,
Yo jhānamabujjhi buddho,
the sage, the solitary bull.”
Paṭilīnanisabho munī”ti.
“Even amid confinement they discover,”
“Sambādhe vāpi vindanti,
said the Buddha to Pañcālacaṇḍa,
(pañcālacaṇḍāti bhagavā)
“the principle for attaining extinguishment.
Dhammaṁ nibbānapattiyā;
Those who have acquired mindfulness
Ye satiṁ paccalatthaṁsu,
are perfectly serene in samādhi.”
Sammā te susamāhitā”ti.
