SN 45.38 The Brahmin Life (2nd) – Dutiyabrahmaññasutta

At Sāvatthī.

Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

Bhikkhū, I will teach you life as a brahmin and the goal of life as a brahmin.

“Brahmaññañca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi, brahmaññatthañca.

Listen …

Taṁ suṇātha.

And what is life as a brahmin?

Katamañca, bhikkhave, brahmaññaṁ?

It is simply this noble eightfold path, that is:

Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo, seyyathidaṁ—

right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right samādhi.

sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi.

This is called life as a brahmin.

Idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, brahmaññaṁ.

And what is the goal of life as a brahmin?

Katamo ca, bhikkhave, brahmaññattho?

The ending of greed, hate, and delusion.

Yo kho, bhikkhave, rāgakkhayo dosakkhayo mohakkhayo—

This is called the goal of life as a brahmin.”

ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, brahmaññattho”ti.
