SN 36.1 SamādhiSamādhisutta

Bhikkhū, there are these three feelings.

“Tisso imā, bhikkhave, vedanā.

What three?

Katamā tisso?

Pleasant, painful, and neutral feeling.

Sukhā vedanā, dukkhā vedanā, adukkhamasukhā vedanā—

These are the three feelings.

imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso vedanāti.

Stilled, aware,

Samāhito sampajāno,

a mindful disciple of the Buddha

sato buddhassa sāvako;

understands feelings,

Vedanā ca pajānāti,

the cause of feelings,

vedanānañca sambhavaṁ.

where they cease,

Yattha cetā nirujjhanti,

and the path that leads to their ending.

maggañca khayagāminaṁ;

With the ending of feelings, a bhikkhu

Vedanānaṁ khayā bhikkhu,

is hungerless, extinguished.”

nicchāto parinibbuto”ti.
