SN 35.143 Exterior and Cause Are AniccaBāhirāniccahetusutta

 

Bhikkhū, sights are anicca.

“Rūpā, bhikkhave, aniccā.

The cause and condition that gives rise to sights is also anicca.

Yopi hetu, yopi paccayo rūpānaṁ uppādāya, sopi anicco.

Since sights are produced by what is anicca, how could they be permanent?

Aniccasambhūtā, bhikkhave, rūpā kuto niccā bhavissanti.

Smells …

gandhā …

Tastes …

rasā …

Touches …

phoṭṭhabbā …

Thoughts are anicca.

dhammā aniccā.

The cause and condition that gives rise to thoughts is also anicca.

Yopi hetu, yopi paccayo dhammānaṁ uppādāya, sopi anicco.

Since thoughts are produced by what is anicca, how could they be permanent?

Aniccasambhūtā, bhikkhave, dhammā kuto niccā bhavissanti.

Seeing this …

Evaṁ passaṁ …pe…

They understand: ‘… there is no return to any state of existence.’”
