SN 23.7 A Stream-Enterer – Sotāpannasutta

At Sāvatthī.

Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

When Venerable Rādha was seated to one side, the Buddha said to him:

Ekamantaṁ nisinnaṁ kho āyasmantaṁ rādhaṁ bhagavā etadavoca:

“Rādha, there are these five grasping aggregates.

“pañcime, rādha, upādānakkhandhā.

What five?

Katame pañca?

The grasping aggregates of form, feeling, perception, saṅkhāra, and consciousness.

Rūpupādānakkhandho …pe… viññāṇupādānakkhandho.

When a noble disciple truly understands these five grasping aggregates’ origin, ending, gratification, drawback, and escape,

Yato kho, rādha, ariyasāvako imesaṁ pañcannaṁ upādānakkhandhānaṁ samudayañca atthaṅgamañca assādañca ādīnavañca nissaraṇañca yathābhūtaṁ pajānāti—

they’re called a noble disciple who is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, bound for awakening.”

ayaṁ vuccati, rādha, ariyasāvako sotāpanno avinipātadhammo niyato sambodhiparāyano”ti.
