SN 22.32 The Breakable – Pabhaṅgusutta

 

At Sāvatthī.

Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

“Bhikkhū, I will teach you the breakable and the unbreakable.

“Pabhaṅguñca, bhikkhave, desessāmi appabhaṅguñca.

Listen …

Taṁ suṇātha.

And what is the breakable? What is the unbreakable?

Kiñca, bhikkhave, pabhaṅgu, kiṁ appabhaṅgu?

Form is breakable,

Rūpaṁ, bhikkhave, pabhaṅgu.

but its cessation, settling, and ending is unbreakable.

Yo tassa nirodho vūpasamo atthaṅgamo, idaṁ appabhaṅgu.

Vedanā pabhaṅgu.

 

Yo tassā nirodho vūpasamo atthaṅgamo, idaṁ appabhaṅgu.

perception …

Saññā pabhaṅgu …

saṅkhāra …

saṅkhārā pabhaṅgu.

 

Yo tesaṁ nirodho vūpasamo atthaṅgamo, idaṁ appabhaṅgu.

consciousness is breakable,

Viññāṇaṁ pabhaṅgu.

but its cessation, settling, and ending is unbreakable.”

Yo tassa nirodho vūpasamo atthaṅgamo, idaṁ appabhaṅgū”ti.

 

Ekādasamaṁ.

 

Bhāravaggo tatiyo.

 

Tassuddānaṁ

 

Bhāraṁ pariññaṁ abhijānaṁ,

 

chandarāgaṁ catutthakaṁ;

 

Assādā ca tayo vuttā,

 

abhinandanamaṭṭhamaṁ;
