SN 22.18 Anicca With Its Cause – Sahetuaniccasutta

 

At Sāvatthī.

Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

Bhikkhū, form is anicca.

“Rūpaṁ, bhikkhave, aniccaṁ.

The cause and condition that gives rise to form is also anicca.

Yopi hetu, yopi paccayo rūpassa uppādāya, sopi anicco.

Since form is produced by what is anicca, how could it be permanent?

Aniccasambhūtaṁ, bhikkhave, rūpaṁ kuto niccaṁ bhavissati.

Feeling is anicca

Vedanā aniccā.

Yopi hetu, yopi paccayo vedanāya uppādāya, sopi anicco.

Aniccasambhūtā, bhikkhave, vedanā kuto niccā bhavissati.

Perception is anicca

Saññā aniccā …

Saṅkhāra are anicca

saṅkhārā aniccā.

Yopi hetu yopi paccayo saṅkhārānaṁ uppādāya, sopi anicco.

Aniccasambhūtā, bhikkhave, saṅkhārā kuto niccā bhavissanti.

Consciousness is anicca.

Viññāṇaṁ aniccaṁ.

The cause and condition that gives rise to consciousness is also anicca.

Yopi hetu yopi paccayo viññāṇassa uppādāya, sopi anicco.

Since consciousness is produced by what is anicca, how could it be permanent?

Aniccasambhūtaṁ, bhikkhave, viññāṇaṁ kuto niccaṁ bhavissati.

Seeing this …

Evaṁ passaṁ …pe…

They understand: ‘… there is no return to any state of existence.’”

nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānātī”ti.
