At Sāvatthī.

Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati.

Bhikkhū, I will teach you the diversity of elements.

“Dhātunānattaṁ vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi.

Taṁ suṇātha …pe…

And what is the diversity of elements?

katamañca, bhikkhave, dhātunānattaṁ?

The sight element, the sound element, the smell element, the taste element, the touch element, and the thought element.

Rūpadhātu saddadhātu gandhadhātu rasadhātu phoṭṭhabbadhātu dhammadhātu—

This is called the diversity of elements.”

idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, dhātunānattan”ti.
