SN 1.78 Desire – Kāmasutta

 

“What should one who desires the good not give away?

“Kimatthakāmo na dade,

What should a mortal not reject?

kiṁ macco na pariccaje;

What should be let out when it’s good,

Kiṁsu muñceyya kalyāṇaṁ,

but not when it’s bad?”

pāpikaṁ na ca mocaye”ti.

“A man shouldn’t give away himself.

“Attānaṁ na dade poso,

He shouldn’t reject himself.

attānaṁ na pariccaje;

Speech should be let out when it’s good,

Vācaṁ muñceyya kalyāṇaṁ,

but not when it’s bad.”

pāpikañca na mocaye”ti.
