SN 1.54 Grounds – Vatthusutta
“What is the ground of human beings?
“Kiṁsu vatthu manussānaṁ,
What is the best companion here?
kiṁsūdha paramo sakhā;
By what do the creatures who live off the earth
Kiṁsu bhūtā upajīvanti,
sustain their life?”
ye pāṇā pathavissitā”ti.
“Children are the ground of human beings.
“Puttā vatthu manussānaṁ,
A wife is the best companion.
bhariyā ca paramo sakhā;
The creatures who live off the earth
Vuṭṭhiṁ bhūtā upajīvanti,
sustain their life by rain.”
ye pāṇā pathavissitā”ti.
