SN 1.14 Aristocrats – Khattiyasutta

 

“An aristocrat is the best of bipeds,

“Khattiyo dvipadaṁ seṭṭho,

an ox is the best of quadrupeds,

balībaddo catuppadaṁ;

a maiden is the best of wives,

Komārī seṭṭhā bhariyānaṁ,

and a first-born the best of sons.”

yo ca puttāna pubbajo”ti.

“A Buddha is the best of bipeds,

“Sambuddho dvipadaṁ seṭṭho,

a thoroughbred, the best of quadrupeds,

ājānīyo catuppadaṁ;

a good listener is the best of wives,

Sussūsā seṭṭhā bhariyānaṁ,

and the best of sons is loyal.”

yo ca puttānamassavo”ti.
