AN 9.67 Lower Fetters – Orambhāgiyasutta

Bhikkhū, there are five lower fetters.

“Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, orambhāgiyāni saṁyojanāni.

What five?

Katamāni pañca?

Identity view, doubt, misapprehension of precepts and observances, sensual desire, and ill will.

Sakkāyadiṭṭhi, vicikicchā, sīlabbataparāmāso, kāmacchando, byāpādo—

These are the five lower fetters.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañcorambhāgiyāni saṁyojanāni.

To give up these five lower fetters you should develop the four kinds of mindfulness meditation. …”

Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, pañcannaṁ orambhāgiyānaṁ saṁyojanānaṁ pahānāya …pe… ime cattāro satipaṭṭhānā bhāvetabbā”ti.
