Bhikkhū, a man catches a woman using eight features.

“Aṭṭhahi, bhikkhave, ākārehi puriso itthiṁ bandhati.

What eight?

Katamehi aṭṭhahi?

1.3

With weeping,

Ruṇṇena, bhikkhave, puriso itthiṁ bandhati;

1.4

laughing,

hasitena, bhikkhave, puriso itthiṁ bandhati;

1.5

speaking,

bhaṇitena, bhikkhave, puriso itthiṁ bandhati;

1.6

appearance,

ākappena, bhikkhave, puriso itthiṁ bandhati;

1.7

gifts of wildflowers,

vanabhaṅgena, bhikkhave, puriso itthiṁ bandhati;

scents,

gandhena, bhikkhave, puriso itthiṁ bandhati;

1.9

tastes,

rasena, bhikkhave, puriso itthiṁ bandhati;

1.10

and touches.

phassena, bhikkhave, puriso itthiṁ bandhati.

1.11

A man catches a woman using these eight features.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, aṭṭhahākārehi puriso itthiṁ bandhati.

1.12

But those beings who are caught by touch are well and truly caught.”

Te, bhikkhave, sattā subaddhā, ye phassena baddhā”ti.
