AN 7.5 Wealth in Brief – Saṅkhittadhanasutta

 

1.1

Bhikkhū, there are these seven kinds of wealth.

“Sattimāni, bhikkhave, dhanāni.

1.2

What seven?

Katamāni satta?

1.3

The wealth of faith, ethical conduct, conscience, prudence, learning, generosity, and wisdom.

Saddhādhanaṁ, sīladhanaṁ, hirīdhanaṁ, ottappadhanaṁ, sutadhanaṁ, cāgadhanaṁ, paññādhanaṁ.

1.4

These are the seven kinds of wealth.

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, satta dhanānīti.

2.1

Faith and ethical conduct are kinds of wealth,

Saddhādhanaṁ sīladhanaṁ,

2.2

as are conscience and prudence,

hirī ottappiyaṁ dhanaṁ;

2.3

learning and generosity,

Sutadhanañca cāgo ca,

2.4

and wisdom is the seventh kind of wealth.

paññā ve sattamaṁ dhanaṁ.

3.1

When a woman or man

Yassa ete dhanā atthi,

3.2

has these kinds of wealth,

itthiyā purisassa vā;

3.3

they’re said to be prosperous,

Adaliddoti taṁ āhu,

3.4

their life is not in vain.

amoghaṁ tassa jīvitaṁ.

4.1

So let the wise devote themselves

Tasmā saddhañca sīlañca,

4.2

to faith, ethical behavior,

Pasādaṁ dhammadassanaṁ;

4.3

confidence, and insight into the teaching,

Anuyuñjetha medhāvī,

4.4

remembering the instructions of the Buddhas.”

Saraṁ buddhāna sāsanan”ti.
