AN 5.231 A Resident Bhikkhu – Āvāsikasutta

“Bhikkhū, a resident bhikkhu with five qualities is not admirable.
“Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu abhāvanīyo hoti.

What five?
Katamehi pañcahi?
1.3
They’re not accomplished in being well-presented and doing their duties.
Na ākappasampanno hoti na vattasampanno;
1.4
They’re not very learned and don’t remember what they’ve learned.
na bahussuto hoti na sutadharo;
1.5
They’re not self-effacing and don’t enjoy self-effacement.
na paṭisallekhitā hoti na paṭisallānārāmo;
1.6
They’re not a good speaker and don’t speak well.
na kalyāṇavāco hoti na kalyāṇavākkaraṇo;

They’re witless, dull, and stupid.
duppañño hoti jaḷo eḷamūgo.

A resident bhikkhu with these five qualities is not admirable.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu abhāvanīyo hoti.

A resident bhikkhu with these five qualities is admirable.
Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu bhāvanīyo hoti.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu bhāvanīyo hotī”ti.
