AN 5.229 Black Snakes (1st) – Paṭhamakaṇhasappasutta

Bhikkhū, there are these five drawbacks of a black snake.

“Pañcime, bhikkhave, ādīnavā kaṇhasappe.

What five?

Katame pañca?

1.3

It’s filthy, stinking, cowardly, frightening, and treacherous.

Asuci, duggandho, sabhīru, sappaṭibhayo, mittadubbhī.

1.4

These are the five dangers of a black snake.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, pañca ādīnavā kaṇhasappe.

2.1

In the same way there are five drawbacks of a female.

Evamevaṁ kho, bhikkhave, pañcime ādīnavā mātugāme.

What five?

Katame pañca?

2.3

She’s filthy, stinking, cowardly, frightening, and treacherous.
